Which book did you start the dare with and why?

I’m insatiably curious, you see.

I’ve just posted on the reasons for my first book choice of the year over at my home blog,  I’d love to hear your stories too.

In the meantime here I am enjoying – nay, luxuriating – in my reclaimed reading couch.

Lizzy and The First Book of 2017

  1. I’ll be starting with Haweswater by Sarah Hall. I’ve been part way through it since October, but lack of concentration and other books coming along mean I haven’t finished it. Every time I pick it up again I enjoy it, so it just needs a bit of focus!

  2. Lab Girl y Hope Jahren. I bought it at the end of 2016, and one of my goals for 2017 is to read more non-fiction. This one was calling my name, and I’m already convinced it will be one of my favorite books of the year. Sometimes you just know…

  3. I picked Willa Cather’s One of Ours as my first year of the book, and I am already done with it, thanks to a bout of sleeplessness. And what a fine book it was! I’ve fallen in love with Cather’s writing all over again.

  4. I started a little early with The Quincunx by Charles Palliser, which had been sitting on a shelf for years. I loved it and read it much more quickly than I had expected. Next up is The Edwardians by Vita Sackville-West.

  5. I started with The Long Way Down by Craig Schaefer. I was already halfway through and I’m working my way through books I bought last year. I acquired The Long Way Down as a freebie last January!
